Manage topics

Residents follow topics. You send updates and polls to the topics. Open Topics in the sidebar. You need an Admin or Communications manager role.

Kinds of topics

  • Standard. Topics that every city starts with, for example Public Safety, Traffic and Construction.
  • Your city's topics. Topics that your team makes, for example a large project.
  • Emergency Information. Every resident follows this topic. It is always visible. You cannot rename it or retire it. You can change its description.
  • Retired. Topics that you retired.

The list shows each topic's description and the number of followers.

Make a topic

  1. Select New topic.
  2. Enter a Name. Use up to 80 characters.
  3. Enter the Description residents will see. Use up to 300 characters.
  4. Keep Visible to residents on. If you turn it off, residents cannot follow the topic.
  5. Select Create topic.

Two topics cannot have the same name.

Rename a topic

Select Rename. Followers keep following the topic.

Hide a topic

Turn off Visible to residents. Residents can no longer pick it. Residents who follow it still follow it. A hidden topic is also not offered when you choose topics for an update or a poll.

Retire a topic

Select Retire. The topic leaves the resident site, and you cannot pick it for new updates. Select Restore on the Retired tab to bring it back as visible.
