Why the portal asks you to confirm it's you
Some actions have a big effect, so the portal asks you to prove who you are first. A dialog opens with the title Confirm it's you. You enter a 6-digit code.
Actions that ask for a code
- Send an update or a poll. This includes send now, schedule and add to the newsletter.
- Approve a newsletter.
- Share poll results in the newsletter, or change or remove that share.
- Invite someone as an Admin, change someone's role to Admin, or restore an Admin.
- Add a passkey.
- Set up or turn off an authenticator app.
Where the code comes from
- Email. This is the default. When the dialog opens, we email you a code. The code works for 10 minutes. Select Send a new code if you need another one.
- Authenticator app. If you set one up, enter the code from the app. Email codes then do not work. If you do not have your phone, select Use a backup code.
To change where the code comes from, read Set up an authenticator app.
How long one check lasts
After a correct code, you do not need to enter a code again for 10 minutes. This applies only to that browser. Another browser or device asks for its own code.
Problems
- "That code is not correct. Try again." Check the code. App codes change every 30 seconds.
- "Too many wrong codes. Wait 15 minutes and try again." After 5 wrong codes, the check locks for 15 minutes.
- "Use the code from your authenticator app." You have an app turned on, so email codes do not work.
- You did not ask for a code. The email says "If you did not ask for this code, change your password." Do that at once.
